Dear Anna:

When I visited you in Detroit last, you mentioned - if I remember correctly - that some day you might acquire a fine bust for one of your mantel pieces; I think it was the dining room.

One of the most beautiful and extremely important marble busts of the French 18th century has just been proposed to us, and though I know that you are at present not particularly in a buying mood, I feel it my duty to at least draw your attention to this exceptional objet d'art.

I therefore am sending you in the enclosure a photograph and the data on the magnificent bust of Madame de Wailly executed by Augustin Pajou in 1789.

You can see from the history the prices this bust has brought at times when conditions were not any too good either. Today, however, I believe this bust could be purchased at a figure which even under the present international and economic conditions would be an extremely advantageous capital investment. The price the present owner desires to obtain is $14,000. However, I am quite certain that an offer within reason would tempt him, and should you at all be interested, I will be very glad to negotiate on your behalf. I would appreciate it if you would kindly drop me a few lines on this matter.

I haven't seen you in so long that it certainly would be good to get a glimpse of you and have a little chat together. You generally honor our great city with your visit this time of year, so won't you let me know when I may have the pleasure of welcoming you to New York?

Trusting that you had a very agreeable summer and that my lines find you in the best of health and spirits, I meanwhile remain with kindest personal regards,

Always sincerely,
Hans Waegen
