My dear Friend:

I am now in receipt of your last two letters, and I thank for the trouble that you are taking.

I am not so much surprised at the difficulties you are encountering in the organization of that little show. It is extremely difficult to get good 19th century drawings nowadays. I wish I could tell you that we have here in New York enough things to complete the group which you have already in Paris. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The things we have in stock have already been shown. Quite a number of them are on exhibition in different States, and it is out of the question to borrow things from private collections here, because our main idea is to have an exhibition in the things which are for sale.

I have spoken to Francois-Gerard Seligmann about a Cezanne water-color which I know, a and which he can probably obtain. I hope that he has been able to find some other things. However, if you, Mr. Brame and Mr. rancois-Gerard Seligmann after having joined your efforts, realized that you could not get a worth-while show together, it would be better to give it up entirely, than spend time and money on a mediocre showing.

Have you been able to do anything with the small DEGAS picture, "Race Course", which you mentioned to me during our last conversation?

I should like to conclude this letter by telling you that our business is running the general trend of affairs. It is not the case.  There is no doubt, a general optimistic feeling everywhere - business is better, but it has so far had no direct bearing on the activities of the work of art market.

We hope however, that we shall soon have good results.
