"SEEING AMERICA BY GREYHOUND BUS" - 1936

One of the most thrilling moments I remember, in Omaha, Neb.,... Night flying was done at Fairs with fireworks on wing tips, yes, but the mail flown at night???? Trains carried Air Mail at Night. No airports as such so the test was to trs to fly Air Mail at night.1921. No moon, no lights. We all knew with the strong Northeast winds, the relay pilot, flight cancelled had gone back into town.
To fly the mail to Chicago? Insane!
The boys built a circle of fires so Jack Knight overdue from North Platte could see the field. Out of the blackness, the swish-swish of wings, sounds of throttling down the motor, into the glow taxied Jack Knight. Thin full of energy, tonite he seemed even thinner, hair blacker, energy low. He knew the flight was cancelled, but removed the chocks, [[?]] and flew the mail to Chicago.

So the primary colors in the paint box of LIFE, painting Aviation leaves shades of Beauty forever. The Prairie, the howling wind, the pitch dark moonless night and tired Jack Knight. Surely our Maker is close to these young men.
