Minute Men Say Dinner Will Be Snappy Affair; But Few Places Remain
-
Tonight at the Hotel Langwell the Minute Men of the Association of Commerce will tender their 'appreciation dinner' to the visiting pilots and officials of the National Glider Association. This dinner promises to eclipse all previous functions of the Minute men and as but few places are now open to guests it is urged that male Elmirans who desire to attend, make reservations at the Association of Commerce office, Federation Building, or at the hotel.
Members of the dinner committee declare that those who miss this unusual function are going to miss the treat of a lifetime, for not only will internationally known aviators give short talks but stunts will enliven the program to and astonishing degree. The guest list is limited to 150 and most of the tickets have been placed, so that reservations for remaining places must be made early today.
Frank E. Tripp will preside as toastmaster, an assurance that the program will "soar" from start to finish without "forced landings." Among the speakers will be Attorney A. D. Falck, William McGrath, Homer Brotzman, Lieutenant Roland Mayer, Wolf Hirth, Donald F. Walker, manager N. G. A.; Robert T. Walker, representing W. B. Mayo, chief engineer of the Ford Motor Company and president of the N. G. A.; Robert Evans, representing his father, Edward S. Evans, head of the Detroit Aircraft Company and honorary president of the N. G. A.; C. S. "Casey" Jones, president of the Curtiss-Wright Flying Service; Jack O'Meara, Captain Frank M. Hawks, Sherman P. Voorhees, chairmen of the executive committee arranging for the Elmira contest, and others.
Not in the city's history have so many recognized authorities in aviation, so many men who have made war history as well as gliding history, been assembled at a banquet table. One of the most interesting and appealing features of the dinner will be the seating of the German World War aviators beside the American World War aviators, all thoughts of strife forgotten in the desire to advance the one thing in which all are most interested - aviation.
The dinner will be served at 7:30 o'clock, while the festivities will cease along about the midnight hour.
