THE EIGHTH ANNUAL NATIONAL SOARING CONTEST officially gets under way at Harris Hill. These pictures taken at the opening day of the 16-day tournament, show: Upper right, a power plane pilot's view of a soaring pilots' meeting. Note the propellor in the center of the picture. Upper left, Emil Lehecka in his Rhonsperber, gracefully taking off on an airplane tow to the cumulus clouds seen in the background. Lower, Bronius Oskinis of Lithuania, besides his aerobatic ship he designed and constructed, Kurt Siemon, interpreter, and Jonas Pyraguis of Lithuania, at the wing of his "Minimoa."
