Torrid Wave Conti Nation with Death

AT THE END of her gypsy trail, as far as the 10th National Soaring Contest in Elmira is concerned, Naval Cadet Robert Stanley's famous metal soaring plane "Nomad," is shown after yesterday's crackup. Stanley, trapped in the spinning ship when the left wing gave way, fought his way out of the cockpit and made a parachute drop into a tree a half mile west of the Harris Hill takeoff field. At right of picture, arm over face, is Aubrey Coyle of Schenectady, chief of Stanley's ground crew; at left, back of the wing, Dana Darling, Greenfield, Mass., soaring pilot.
