New "C" Test Pilot Events

Due to the large number of new "C" test pilots, the two events #4 and 4 for the $225 offered by the Norwich Pharmacal Corp., created much interest. The results for aggregate time were as follows with 1st place paying $50; 2nd. $30; 3rd. $20 and 4th. $12.50;

Aggregate Time:

Martin Schempp 8 hrs. 42 min. 46 sec.
Bud Stickler 7 hrs. 28 min. 5 sec. (this includes the only qualified flight he made)
Bud Iszard 6 hrs. 3 min.
A.B. Schultz    5 hrs. 5 min.

Many excellent by technically disqualified flights were made by the new pilots due to safety and caution regarding landings beneath the mountain.

The first three pilots above has been introduced elsewhere. Schultz is a Detroit boy flying for the A.B.C. Glider Club in a Franklin Utility.

The results for spot landing on the airport from South Mountain paying the same as for aggregate time, are as follows;

Spot landing results:

Edward Barton     3 inches
R.C. Holderman   10 inches
Robert Eaton     13 inches
James Wieberg,   14 inches

This leaves $100 of Wright Aeronautical Corp. prize money yet unawarded but assigned as a single prize in the Contest for the greatest contribution to the science of soaring flight. All pilots are urged to submit a MSS in this Contest as described in the Announcement. Please note the time limit.

Hasting Again Wins Trophy

In the final tabulation of points for the American Glider Championship and the EDWARD S.EVANS TROPHY the following results were obtained:

Hasting,       6 plus a possible 3 more for a record or a possible 9.
Schempp,       6 plus a possible 3 more for a record or a possible 9.
Stickler,      2 plus a possible 3 more for a record or a possible 5.
Bowlus,        2.
R.E. Franklin  1.

Were Hastings to lose the duration record to Stickler while Schempp's altitude record is recognized, Schempp would be ahead on point with 8 to Hastings' 6 and Stickler's 5. But Schempp was eliminated by the Contest Committee on the grounds of German nationality. This leaves but Hastings with a minimum of 6 to Stickler's maximum of 5 so that beyond doubt Hastings was entitled to the award, which was made in the name of Mr. Edward S. Evans, Honorary President of the N. G. A. by Manager D. F. Walker at the
