'Gus' Haller's Soaring Plane In Flight

BELIEVE IT OR NOT.....

On October 4, 1940 at Elmira, New York, seven gliders were soaring at one time, hundreds of feet above the hills. One of them climbed higher and higher, and cruised out of view. After a few hours of interested waiting the pilot reported his landing 21.1 miles from his starting point; and that conditions were so good he decided such a distance flight was easily possible. This outstanding pilot was 'Gus' Haller, the first American graduate of Germany's famous Gliding and Soaring School on the Wasserkuppe, who spent six months studying motorless flight in Europe, and helping to establish the movement in England.

The cost of only the ground-school and gliding course of two weeks will be $75..00 while the cost of a complete course in gliding and soaring will be $150.00. Your board and lodging are $14.00 per week if you desire to stay at the airport, which will prove most advantageous to the students, as the accomodations are very comfortable.
For those holding an airplane pilot's license, who desire to get this wonderful training, a special soaring course is offered at $50.00 plus their board and lodging.
You will find the Greensburg airport an excellent vacation spot. Located just off the Lincoln Highway in the foothills of the Allegheny mountains. It is surrounded by beautiful scenery. There is also a swimming pool nearby which will be available for the students. For extended soaring flights, there will be plenty of opportunity to take short trips to the mountains where soaring conditions have proved ideal.
