Community Singers to Give Concert

The Community Singers will give their first formal program at the Open House party on Saturday evening, May 1st, when Mrs. Otto T. Eglehart, a member of the chorus, will be the hostess. The directors hope the community will encourage The Singers in their first venture by attending the concert, which will be composed of both humorous and serious songs. A very pleasant evening is promised.
Mrs. Morris D. Ervin, manager of the group, has asked us to remind members that rehearsals for the concert will be started on April 4th and that The Singers will meet each Monday evening in April at her home, 4943 Hillbrook Lane, Spring Valley. Residents of the community who like to sing are cordially invited to join The Singers. They may do so by communicating with Mrs. Ervin at her home. Those who join in time for the April rehearsals will be permitted to sing in the concert on May 1st.

Mrs. Junkin to Address Child Study Club

Mrs. Hattie Meyers Junkin of Lowell Street will be the principal speaker at the meeting of the Esley Hheights Child Study Club on March 2nd. A graduate in law and a member of the District of Columbia Bar, Mrs. Junkin will speak on legal information for women, telling them some of the facts that they need to know and can use in their daily affaris.
Mrs. Frances Troy Northcross, director of the Homemaking Department of the Washington Herald, was scheduled to address the March meeting, but was unable to be present because of illness. However, a most interesting talk was given by Mrs. A. GThrasher, registered nurse, and a representative of a local dairy. She emphasized the importance of milk in the diet of adults, as well as children, because it is a perfect food. Through the valuable experiments of Dr. Harry Steenbock and Dr. Alfred Hess we can now obtain Vitamin D in our milk. By means of a process called "irradiation" milk is exposed to the ultra-violet rays of the sun, thus supplying it with the Vitamin D, so important to growing children in preventing rickets and other diseases. Mrs. Thrasher brought out the interesting fact that this Vitamin D is contained in the crea, of the milk. She warned agains leaving milk uncovered for any length of time. In the modern dairy special precaution is taken to keep the cans and the entire plant immaculately clean.
