The ninth day of Janet's life Sam collapsed entirely. He was
hurried to Dayton again. For ten days, due to Sam's request, Hattie constituted the household. Sam was brought home and his brain continued to clear and cloud and finally the cruel practice of holding
life on oxygen was started. One evening Sam took his farewell of Hattie who had tried to assemble herself to look a little bit like the
girl he had married. His admonitions were,"Don't get cynical and
bitter. Keep you face sweet and hang on to your religion whatever it
may be,and you will solve all of the problems that youwill have to and
be safe from any harm." On October 1st,in the morning, Sam died.
Within a month [[?]] because of lack of funds Hattie sold her stock
except for a small amount to Clayt in spite of other offers. He was
the only one of the boys left. Little Buck had bronchial pneumonia
which precipitated the necessity for larger funds [[?]] the small account she was told would be here and was the final
pressure which made Hattie even consider selling her stock. After the
deal was consummated, there was found to be nine thousand dollars left
in back salary which exceeded the amount given Hattie for nearly half
interest. Somehow or other this was explained away. After six months
in Ashville upon returning to Troy the final payments were made on the
sale of the stock. Wacos were selling 'fast and furious' and trippled
the success of the previous year. With the aid of a lawyer who was an
old family friend there was a reappraisal of stock. Hattie and the
two children moved to Toledo where Ironies hurt less and where they
now reside, without Mr. Brukner[[?]] bullying Buddie, when Bud went
to the factory. Reason[[?]]: Bud might get injured. He was. His faith in men[[?]].
In the fall of 1928 the Company, under the Mass. charter, having
as its Directors, Clayton J. Brukner, Lee N. Brutus and Hattie Meyers
Junkin, was reorganized under the laws of Ohio. Hattie was not aware
of being on the Board of Directors until in the new reorganization she
was voted off. During May and June of 1929 the Advance Aircraft Company
has changed its name to the Waco Aircraft Company and W. E. Hutton ,
brokers, are listing the stock as the same on the curb. Clayton J. Brukner is the presiding President of the Company and Hattie still
retains a small part of the original common stock.
