when United Airlines flew a restored Swallow around the country
in connection with its 50th anniversary. That Swallow, you will
note, was powered by the familiar radial engine. The same photo
shows that the interplane struts are correctly positioned on the
Swallow on our stamp.)

In addition to the newspaper photographs made at Tasco, Washington,
on April 6, 1926, we had available records of Varney Air Lines.
They show clearly that Varney began airmail operations with
Swallows, that the first flight was by an OX-5-powered Swallow,
and that the OX-5s were replaced with Wright radial engines.

bit of aviation history with you.

Sincerely,
William F. Bolger
