close up MOVIE 9:00 9 11 Mary White A fond remembrance. This 1977 TV-movie is based on the famous newspaper editorial written by William Allen White in 1921, after his daughter Mary's death in a horseback-riding accident. Filmed in Emporia,Kan. (where White was the Pulitzer Prize-winning editor of the Emporia Gazette), the movie has White (Ed Flanders) recalling the last year of Mary's life, which is seen in flashbacks. To her father, teen-age Mary (Kathleen Beller) is a strong-willed, free-spirited girl, "with the intelligence of a woman and the heart of a child." A crusader like her father, she fights for women's rights and against segregation in her high school, opposing as well the sometimes narrow-minded attitudes of her small home town. Supporting Cast . . . Sallie : Fionnuala Flanagan. Bill: Tim Matheson. Jane Addams: Diana Douglas. Sir James Barrie: Donald Moffat. Richard : Howard McGillin. (2 hrs.) [[image]] Kathleen Beller
