The Origin of the WACO AIRCRAFT COMPANY, Troy, Ohio

There seems to be some confusion about the history of, or evolution of, the present WACO AIRCRAFT COMPANY., to those new to the industry of commercial aviation.

Encouraged by the old timers (now headline names) in the Industry, who seem to think the true evolution should be common property for many constructive and just reasons, I am trying to put forth as clearly and concisely as possible facts proved irrevocably by photostats of the original documents and of advertising literature of the changes from the incipiency of the company.

The WEAVER AIRCRAFT COMPANY, was formed in 1920 in Lorain, Ohio. (This was not the Advance Aircraft Co., as some aviation journal stated in recent issues).

The members were: Geo. E. (Buck) Weaver, president, and only famous/pilot. Civ. Fly. Instructor, US. Army

Elwood J. Junkin
inspector of aircraft, Aeromarine during the War. (heart trouble prevented active service)

Clayton J. Brukner, private A.E.F.

The first ship the closed corporation built was called the WACO-COOTIE. Initials of the company and the war time scourge. The ships were to be prodcued in like numbers. Buck Weaver was nearly killed in the first one.

In 1922 theplans for the first big Wacos were under way. 

Due to the lack of funds and facilities of any kind the building was discontinued. In 1922 the Weaver Aircraft Co., built the Waco 8, in Medina, Ohio. Buck was test pilot, advertiser, mechanic and builder; Elwood (Sam) was the designer, (engineer) good financial brain; "Bruck" C.J. Brunker, bookkeeper, buyer of supplies, mechanic.
