This points out that the whole group of Ameria is distinct from the Physidæ and a glance at the tentacles of the living animal should be sufficient to determine whether it should be referred to the Limnæidæ or the Planorbidæ.

This article determines for the first time the soft parts of this subgenus, points out that the hinge is destitute of lateral teeth and describes a new species from Lower California, L. annettæ, dredged by the U.S. Fish Commission in 1888.
