Dear Doris:

We got your letter and cards tonight. I am sorry you have lost a pound, you must rest more and not run about so fast and eat slowly. How is your swimming coming along? I hope you were warm enough today and wore your warm clothes. It has poured here all the afternoon. You must have had to stay indoors most of the day.

Grandma writes that she is sending you a birthday present

Gardner got back from Ala. on Monday but I haven't seen her yet. Richard Taylor is working in the Museum cracking up pieces of rocks and getting shells out. We went to Plum Pt. with him Sunday and I found 2 nice specimens of a rare shell of which I had found only 1 before.

I hope the sun doesn't shine in your eyes at 4 in the morning the way it does mine. Tonight we are going to go to bed early. The cat knows it is raining and hasn't asked to go out since we brought him in.

Love
Daddy

The plant is Callitriche austini, a species of water starwort that grows in wood roads and damp places instead of in the water.
