When I went out to see Miss Deickmann yesterday I found she had already left, the 19th, for three months in Denmark. She had set out with many days of rush before, on a sorry errand, carrying her mother's ashes. The storm which hit twice must have [[strikethrough]] made [[/strikethrough]] strained even her sea-worthiness. She ought to be there in a few days, landing at Oslo. Her assistant said sometimes they walked across to the Danish peninsula, but she probably won't. Tuesday night was the Jolly-up at Cabot, from 8-10. It was well organized, & by selection, better men. I danced with Koen a lot, but met an engineer from Tech I had met before & exchanged partners with Jean & Bobbie. Too short an evening, so we went out afterward, being home by 12. Both Koen & Nelson (Jean's) ended up at the Appian Way Club for Graduates, where we found them engaged in chess, & had some ping pong & cider before they shut shop. We had a lot of fun, feeling gay, but he didn't ask me out again & may not. Dad, Ina tried out the following two puzzles on me with matches. By moving only one match in each case, and neither the = mark or - mark nor +, make the 2 statements true: (They kept two skilled mathematicians writhing for an hour, but aren't really so bad; I got them at a hint.): 1. II + VI = II 2. XXII / VIII = II Hope you enjoy this Talent Banquet & are cleared out enough to drive (which I wouldn't say if I were home) well, Love, Doris
