WHAT the MAN WILL WEAR

boater or yacht straw. During the forthcoming summer this stiff hat will be a favorite of young men for town wear instead of the Panama which, rightly reckoned, belongs to il dolce far niente.

In handkerchiefs the drift is towards white grounds with delicately traced figures instead of boisterously colored effects, as these do not comport so well with the bolder shades in lounge suitings.

MORNING: In bygone days, when a man retired from business or business retired from a man, he devoted himself to the preciosities of pictures and porcelains or something musty-fusty-dusty like that. Now-a-days the man with a retiring disposition goes in for sport and travel. Thus, fashions for field and knockabout are influenced just as much by the oldster as by the youngster. The Norfolk type of jacket illustrated alongside brings a revival of the cut in vogue many years ago. This garment is longer with half or full belt. Deep expanding pleats extend lengthwise from each shoulder. The skirts are fullfold and show a faint flare. The pockets are patch with flaps. The general effect of this jacket is one of easy-breezy looseness quite different and much smarter than the over-sleek garment so often seen.

SKY BLUE
PINK
LAMPSHADES
OUR Head Housekeeper has a remarkable memory! And a most remarkable file of records. Records of all the little pet likes and dislikes expressed by our guests. Supposed, for instance, you happen to tell your spouse at dinner that you just love sky-blue pink lampshades. With all due respects to Buggy, he probably won't write feverishly on his cuff: "Wife likes sky-blue pink lampshades." Whereas, if we should happen to over you, we undoubtedly would do just that. And the next time you visited us, Madam, there'd be nothing but sky-blue pink lampshades in your room--even if our housekeeping department had to make them especially for you.
