Be awfully careful riding your bike: I think of you in that traffic and regret letting you have it.

Arlington, Va.
5 Oct 1947.

Dear Doris:

When Dad brought you home a week ago, someone had written on the dirty side of the car "Dottie is a dope." Do you suppose they would have been referring to you?

We have spent the day at Plum Pt walking up to Dad's favorite cliffs where he pawed about for several hours and got a lot of nice shells. I found a few sharks' teeth and a green penny and 2 fine beetles and lay sunning myself. If it had been just a bit warmer, I should have gone in.

Dolores called up the other night. She said she had seen Lillian Muse at G.W. taking courses. D. is still crazy over piano lessons and wants to buy a piano. I hope she doesn't neglect her studies. She is taking English, some Bible or religion history, a course in history of art, and plans to work off her Biology next semester. She wants to work 25 hrs a week, so as to earn more money. She said she was coming over here some Sat afternoon and play on our piano if it wouldn't bother us. She hasn't much use for the boy she took abnormal psychology with. Both of them got B in it.

Billy Dodge and I held a conflab over the Star last night, he telling of his courses, - taking 17 hrs. this year, mostly physics & engineering, a course in Economics and English. He said Eric was pushing boating as usual and G.W. now had some dinghys but didn't know where to keep them.

Has your 3rd girl come yet? Don't get so rattled and settle down to doing your job, else you will earn the reputation of being the most careless one there. For a while stick to your job and let the outside things go, till you get into the swing and can manage. I hope you are caught up with your work now -

Love
Mother.
