Dear Doris:

It rained much of the morning & all of last night, so that I didn't go up to Plummers I. to work on fences, &c., as I had planned to do. Then this afternoon it suddenly developed summer heat & mugginess. I feel pretty tired right now.

Yesterday Jeff & Helen took us up to Gettysburg for our first visit there. Jeff got a guide who went in the car with us and explained the course of the battle & the position of the troops in great detail. After we dropped him off we went into a museum where there was a model of the battlefield with electric lights to show the position of the troops and a loudspeaker explaining the course of the battle. Altogether we all got a fairly clear idea [[strikethrough]] if [[/strikethrough]] of this battle which marked the turn of the tide in the Civil War. Then we found a gas station with tables & a fireplace where we had lunch & then came home. It was slightly cloudy most of the day, which made for comfort. If it had been like this p.m. in Wash. it would have been very hot. The battle, by the war, was fought the first days in July when the temp. was about 100°.

I had a second treatment for my shoulder on Thursday & hope my soreness there is ever. Jeff, who have been having a lot of trouble with his leg, was the next patient after me, altho' I didn't find it out until yesterday.

Hope your exams go well. When you decide the date of your arrival let us know so we can meet you. Get only a 1-way ticket this time. Mother says to remember to collect your refund at the Coop. I am enclosing check for $25. Hope this will be enough. You must get out to Stoughton once at least before you come down here.

Love
