Dear Doris:

I agree with mother that something is decidedly wrong when you can't find the time to write to us or get your college work done without staying up till midnight every night. We can afford to put you thru college, as she says, but we can't afford it if you are going to waste your time on silly contests that you don't stand one chance in ten thousand of winning and that wouldn't be of any permanent value to you if you did. I got a 5-lb. box of chocolates once, in a drug store contest on guessing the number of pills in a bottle (a guess with every soda), and my father got a $20 prize in books in a newspaper contest, and mother got $100 for her travel essay, but no one can support himself by such things. It is time thrown away, & you can't afford to put it any more time at it with all your exams coming off immediately. So for heaven's sake quit immediately and get down to studying for your exams, which is what you are really there for.

Love,
SFB
