Dear Doris:
Dad is all upset over the idea of you sailing. He himself once had an experience of the kind and considers that it was one of the closest calls he ever had to losing his life. Billy Dodge & Eric were sea scouts in their younger days and trained to know how to manage boats. You don't know a darned thing about even a row boat, and a row boat or any other kind with a wind blown sail attached is quite a different thing altogether. I remember how we used to go down Buzzards Bay in cat boats, -- my mother always had 1 trip a summer in one, under a skilled boatman, but the trip was agony to me. I was scared half to death all the time. Billy said they used a different kind of boat at Annapolis and he all but went over too. So please, please, please, don't risk your neck in one of those things either by yourselves or with anyone else.

Love
Mother
