GOOD WILL CEMENTING GOOD WILL THROUGH THE POWER OF COMMERCE AND TRADE was the high point of the first anniversary gathering of the Good Will Committee to Haiti, held in Philadelphia, Pa., on April 5th. Noteworthy were the two telegrams received by the Commission from the President of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Minister to the United States from Haiti, Elie Lescot. It was Major R.R. Wright, President of Philadelphia's Citizens and Southern Bank and Trust Company, who pointed to the opening of commerce as a key to good will between nations. As an importer, Major Wright has introduced Haitian coffee to the American people on a large scale. In appreciation of the fine spirit shown by the citizens of the United States in using Haitian coffee, a contract has been offered by Haiti to the Haitian Coffee and Products Trading Company of American for 100,000 pounds of laundry soap. Elder Solomon Lightfoot Michaux saw the need for the introduction of English language course in Haitian schools to encourage a greater good will between the two Republics through mutual understanding.
