Dear Doris:

It is such a lovely spring afternoon here! I hope you are having milder weather too. The old cat and I spent an hour out in the "plot" this afternoon while I broke down old chrysanthemum stalks, he sat sedately beside me, and our mockingbird trilled safely in the lilac bush a few yards away. Two crocuses and a snowdrop are out. Mrs. Williams came by wheeling the baby, and stopped to chat. The baby has 2 teeth and is sitting up big as life now, - a pretty little girl. Mrs Bryan came out too and I presented her with some forsythia branches, - the buds are far advanced now and will come out in a few days in the house. I am going to take down a great bunch to the museum tomorrow when I go with Dad, - his day in town. I think the daffies may be up when you come. They are usually blooming by the end of March, and if the weather should turn warm, the cherries ought to bloom out that first week in April too. Only 15 days before you arrive! It doesn't seem possible spring vacation is so nearly here. Haven't heard from Dolores yet, must call her up some time soon. Billy Dodge came by and at my greeting said he thought I must be away. He asked after you shyly and listened with all his ears as I told him of the snow & ice at home and of seeing you & going to classes with you. I asked how his public speaking was coming along, and he acted rather embarrassed and said the teacher wasn't much good.
Here comes Dad, must get supper
Love Mother
