with McCurdy and Robinson. While there Beachey made a flight over the city and circled the Capitol Dome and the Washington Monument. There also on May 7th he flew his license tests and was awarded Certificate No. 27 on May 16th, 1911. 

May 11th to 14th Beachey was at Bridgeport, Connecticut with McCurdy and while there he flew to New Haven, landing on Yale Field, then on May 19th and 20th he and

McCurdy flew for the Yale Aero Club. Beachey flew at Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania with McCurdy May 29th to June 3d, then June 9th he was at Evansville, Indiana where he flew over the city and the Ohio River, had a smashup in landing and was bruised. June 16th to 18th he was at Readville, Massachusetts with Witmer, and from there flew to Waltham and return. Starting June 20th he flew at Buffalo, New York for one week with McCurdy and Witner and during that time made one of the most daring flights of his career on June 27th when he flew over Niagara Falls, dropping down into the gorge and under the suspension bridge so close to the water that his machine was soaked by the spray. On July 17th he was at Ogdensburg, New York where he flew across the St. Lawrence River and return. June 18th he flew at Plattsburg, New York, then on August 1st at Newberg, New York. 

On August 5th Beachey raced Robinson and Ely from New York to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The event was sponsored by Gimvel Brothers Stores, and it was specified that the race would start over their department store in New York and end over the store in Philadelphia. Starting from Governors Island they flew over Manhattan then left for Philadelphia. Beachey won the event easily, making one stop at Trenton, New Jersey for fuel. He returned to New York where he flew in a small air meet at Nassau Boulevard, Long Island August 6th to 8th with Atwood, Beaty, Stone and Dixon. From there Beachey flew at Binghamton, New York August 11th and 12th, then to Chicago, Illinois for the renowned 1911 Air Meet at Grant Park until August 20th. He was easily the "Star Headliner" at that great event, flying rings around the world's leading aviators, then on August 20th he set a new world altitude record of 11,642 feet. On the flight, he kept climbing until his fuel was exhausted then glided back down with a dead engine.
