from Mineola, Long Island to Governors Island, carrying Ripley Bowman as passenger.

In January, 1917 Bounds was employed as test pilot for Standard Aircraft Corporation at Elizabeth, New Jersey. During the late winter and early spring months of that year he was at Daytona Beach, Florida putting the new standard J-1 training plane through exhaustive tests. He remained with Standard, then late that year started testing two new planes, a military scout and a plane designed for mail service. Toward spring he flew the mail plane with Hispano engine to Dayton, Ohio for tests, then flew the plane from Dayton to Washington, D.C. for more tests.. As a result Standard received an order for a number of these planes.

After world War I Bounds returned to Oklahoma where he engaged in farming and stock raising. During the late 1920's he became instructor and General Manager of the Garland Aircraft Company, of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Bounds passed away in 1942 but information is lacking concerning the date, place and particulars. He was a member of the Early Birds.

Flying Pioneer, Early Bird Overton M. Bounds was an expert test pilot and instructor who contributed his bit to the progress of early American aviation history.
