he flew from Bath to Corning, New York, where he landed at Dennison Par, dressed as Santa Clause, for a childrens' [[children's]] Christmas Festival.  He did the same on the twenty-fourth, flying to Hornell, New York.

In January, 1914, Burnside was instructing a class of students and practicing acrobatic flying.  On January 24th he left for an extended exhibition tour of Cuba and the Caribbean countries where he remained until late April.  That month he was banqueted and presented with a medal by prominent citizens of Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic.  Upon his return Burnside did considerable flying at Dobbs Ferry, New York, on the Hudson River, demonstrating a new Thomas flying boat, which he flew also around New York City and vicinity.  On July 4th, he entered a race for seaplanes in New York Harbor, starting from Governors Island to Spuyten Duyvil then down the river to the Atlantic Yacht Club at Sea Gate and returning to Governors Island.  He had flown from Dobbs Ferry for this event in the Thomas boat; he and Mrs. Burnside made the return flight on July 6th.  August 12th to 15th he flew at Norristown, Pennsylvania, and from August 21st to September 5th he and Charles Fay flew at Quebec, Canada, during a celebration.  September 9th to 11th, Burnside flew at Indiana, Pennsylvania; from September 29th and 30th at Concord, New Hampshire.  That Fall the Thomas Brothers Company moved from Bath to Ithaca, New York, and as soon as they were reorganized a flying school was started, with Burnside as instructor. 

In March, 1915, he conducted the initial flight tests on a new Thomas Military Tractor Biplane of very advanced design.  In May hydro instruction was started on Lake Cayuga, with Burnside still in charge of the school.  On May 22nd he and Charles Fay made flights during a ball game and at the Harvard Cornell Boat Races at Ithaca.  That Spring the company sold some of their new military tractors to the British Government, and in July, Burnside began conducting
