Sciences and the American Legion. He also held Commercial Pilot License No. 188 and a glider license.

Flying Pioneer, Early Bird Richard H. DePew devoted all his adult lifetime to flying and aviation. At the time of his death he had been an active pilot for 36 years, during which time he had reportedly flown over 160 different types of planes, either as a civilian or military aviator, many of which were initial test flights, certainly an outstanding record. He was always an active participant in National Air Races and Flying Tour. A careful, cautious pilot, he had few accidents, and had a rule that he did not want to be a notorious pilot but just to be one of the oldest ones. His name and accomplishments must be well recorded in American aviation history.
