   Warren S. Eaton was born at Rapid City, South Dakota on June 12th, 1891. He attended public schools in Rapid City until the family moved to California in 1908 where he completed his schooling, then graduated with an Electrical Engineering Degree at Polytechnic Institute, Los Angeles.
   During his youth he became interested in aviation and made model gliders and flying models. At the Institute Eaton became associated with Professor H.V. Twining and they formed the Aero Club of Los Angeles Polytechnic Institute, one of the first college aero clubs in the country.
   During the winter of 1908-1909 Eaton built a man carrying glider with which he reportedly made his first airborne hop on June 2d, 1909.

   Over the winter months of 1909-1910 Eaton and Professor Twining built a powered plane, called the Eaton-Twining. It was a high-wing tractor monoplane with an open frame work and outrigger tail, powered by a 40 H.P. Mercedes automobile engine, mounted low, driving the propeller by a chain transmission. Two wings were made for this plane, one small for "jump practice" and a larger one for flying later. Both wings used sliding panels at the wing tips for lateral control.

At this time Eaton was assisted by his brother Frank and called them-
