to Philadelphia Race, sponsored by Gimbel Brothers to be held August 5th.  How-ever, just before the race started Hamilton withdrew and Eugene Ely took his place. In August Hamilton was granted Connecticut State Pilot License No. 1.  Apparently by this time his health had deteriorated to the point where it was necessary that he enter a sanatorium at New Britain, where he remained throughout the fall and early winter months of 1911. 

In January, 1912, he was at Galveston, Texas, where he attempted to fly an exhibition and had a smashup, so he returned home with a broken arm and other injuries.  Reportedly, he had been on his way to the West Coast to fill engagements when this happened.  On March 18th he flew an exhibition at Sacramento, California, then flew 42 miles cross-country to Marysville, California, for an exhibition there.  On April 12th to 14th he was at Fresno, California, where he flew with Blanche Scott and Glenn Martin.  In May he had a bad smashup at College Park, Maryland, putting him in the hospital again.  Hamilton entered the 1912 Boston Meet held June 29th to July 7th together with Harriet Quimby, Phil Page, George Gray, Lincoln Beachey, Glenn Martin, Blanche Scott and Charles Niles.  This vent proved to be quite a failure; first, all pilot licenses were revoked for flying at an unsanctioned meet, the weather was bad, and following Harriet Quimby's fatal crash with W.A.P. Willard, father of Charles Willard, the meet practically folded up and little flying was done.  On July 26th and 27th Hamilton and Nels Nelson flew at the Berlin, Connecticut, Fairgrounds, and as an added stunt fought a sham aerial duel, making a number of flights.  August 4th he flew at Hartford, Connecticut.  On August 26th he and several other pilot members resigned from the Aero Club of America in protest of the manner of supervising air meets.  On August 31st his pilot license was reinstated. Still flying for Curtiss, Hamilton gave an exhibition at Johnstown, Pennsylvania, on September 12th, the first flights ever made there, then on September 17th he and William S. Lucky were at York, Pennsylvania.  On October 26th he flew at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, then at Staunton, Virginia.  On November 5th he flew
