during the war. 

After the war, in 1919, Hamilton bought the Matthews Company interests and reformed the Hamilton Aero Manufacturing Company at Milwaukee, to specialize in propeller manufacture and to continue aircraft developments. There he became active in the Aero Club of Wisconsin and in 1920 flew a Lincoln-Standard plane in the round-Wisconsin air tour. 

Through the early and mid 1920's Hamilton [[strikethrough]] gradually developed [[/strikethrough]] became one of the major sources of propellers in the United States and was one of the leaders [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] in the design and manufacture of metal propellers. During this period he patented several propeller features and manufacturing processes. He designed and assisted in the development of propellers for large Navy flying boats.

About this time Hamilton started to work on all-metal plane experimentation and in 1926 introduced his first full-cantilever all-metal monoplane, powered by a Wright Whirlwind motor.

In 1927 he founded the Hamilton Metal Plane Company in Milwaukee and followed up by bringing out several models of all-metal planes that were highly successful and used [[strikethrough]] largely [[/strikethrough]] by some of the early airlines. 

At a time when both his firms were growing rapidly and the aviation industry flourishing, Hamilton sold all of his interests to United Aircraft and Transport Corporation in 1929. United already owned the Standard Steel Propeller Company of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and after taking over Hamilton's propeller company the Hamilton-Standard Division of United was formed, with Hamilton elected as Chairman of the Board. The Milwaukee propeller facilities were moved to Pittsburgh and merged with Standard. The Hamilton Metal Plane Company became a Division of Boeing for a time, then was phased out.

In 1930 he moved to California as President of United Airports where he supervised the construction of the United Airport in Burbank, the only one serving Los Angles at that time. Following that Hamilton became Foreign Representative and served as President of United Aircraft Export Corporation for ten years. During that time he assisted in the establishment of some of the European
