Remaining with the Service he became foreman of the Aircraft Shop in 1918. In 1921 he was transferred to Duncan Field, San Antonio, Texas. There he advanced through Liaison Specialist, Contracting and Purchasing, and Engineer, Industrial Engineering Division. Then he retired.

He continued to live in San Antonio until he passed away in 1963 at age 73. He was an Early Bird but was never licensed as a pilot.

Flying Pioneer, Clair G. Horton devoted the major part of his active lifetime to aviation as an expert mechanic, serviceman, pilot and then spent many years in the Air Service. A pleasant, well liked man, his lifetime contribution to American aviation history deserves much credit.
