ran the Houpert Machine Shop in Long Island City, Long Island, specializing in the manufacture of replacement pistons for automobiles. In 1929 Houpert opened an Auto and Truck Repair Shop, and in 1939 became a toolmaker and inspector for a firm in Farmingdale, Long Island, where he was active through World War II.

Andre Houpert retired in 1952 and resided in Flushing, Long Island. He passed away on April 4, 1963, in the Flushing Hospital, Queens, at age 77. He was survived by his wife, three sons, a brother, sister and eleven grandchildren.
