He remained with the Moisant Company through 1914, then from 1915 to 1919 was Director of Military Aviation for the Guatemala Government.

After returning to the United States he gave up flying and went into the hotel business. He was associated with the Warwick Hotel, Philadelphia, PA and later owned and managed the Cornwall Inn of Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York. He passed away in 1942 at age sixty-one.

Shakir S. Jerwan was a member of the Early Birds, Aircraft Owners' and Pilots' Association and the National Aeronautic Association.
