Flying Pioneer, Early Bird Walter R. Johnson was truly one of the real pioneers of early American aviation history, and richly deserves great credit for his many noteworthy contributions to its growth and development. Starting at the time aviation was an extremely hazardous experiment, he taught himself to fly and went on to become one of America's most renowned exhibition, test and instructor pilots. During World War I he was an outstanding flying instructor and taught scores of men to fly who later became well-known in military aviation.
