Harry M. Jones was born at Providence, Rhode Island March 7th, 1890. He attended schools there, then his first love of adventure led him to the sea where he worked for the Key West Steamship Line from New York City to Galveston, Texas.

After a time with them he became interested in motorcycle racing and it was not long before his daring riding attracted considerable attention. As a result of this [[strikethrough]] notoriety [[/strikethrough]] he became associated with Earl Ovington, who at that time was also a well known rider, dealer, and President of the Federation of American Motorcyclists. Jones remained with Ovington about two years during which time there was a decline in motorcycling events. Jones quit riding and became employed by Brown and Sharpe as an engraver. While there he also began the study of gas engines which led to an interest in aviation [[strikethrough]] motors [[/strikethrough]] engines. [[strikethrough]] This was purely personal until [[/strikethrough]] Soon after Ovington returned from Europe as an aviator.

Jones visited Ovington and saw him fly his new French Bleriot at Narragansett Park. [[strikethrough]] and was interested. [[/strikethrough]] Later [[strikethrough]] he [[/strikethrough]] Jones had some [[strikethrough]] aeroplane [[/strikethrough]] airplane rides with Phil Page and Cliff Webster at the Burgess Company, Marblehead, Massachusetts, [[strikethrough]] and this [[/strikethrough]] these sold him completely on aviation. As a result, he signed up  for a flying course with the General Aviation Company School at Saugus, Massachusetts in
