Early Bird, Flying Pioneer Glenn L. Martin was indeed one of the most outstanding men of the early American aviation era.  With unusual vision, determination and hard work he charted a life course of notable aviation accomplishment that was probably unequaled by anyone.  Self-taught on homemade planes at the very beginning of the art he want on to become an expert aviator, manufacturer and renowned industrialist.   
  As a judge of men he gathered around him and started careers of several who later became heads of large aircraft firms which constituted his major competition.  Starting with nothing he developed a huge aircraft complex employing thousands of people, and built quantities of some of the most notable aircraft of the world.
