Flying pioneer Glenn L. Martin was one of the most outstanding men of the early American aviation era. With unusual vision, determination, and hard work he charted a life course of aviation accomplishment that placed him in the front rank of successful pilots, designers, and manufacturers. Self-taught on home-made airplanes and floatplanes he attained the height of production with leading aircraft. As a judge of men he gathered around him and started the careers of several who later became heads of their own aircraft companies, and in fact, were a friendly source of business competition. He produced lucrative work for thousands of workers and produced a number of the best aircraft of their time.
