Percy G. B. "Bud" Morriss was born at Redditch, England, December 13, 1884. He attended Redditch public schools, then Leeds College. Through this period he worked as an apprentice pharmacist evenings and weekends to pay for his education. During his youth he also studied music on piano and organ. 

After completing his education Morris spent four years at sea as a midshipman and made five trips around the Horn. During the Boer War he jumped ship and did a string in the armed services, then return-ed to his ship. 

According to the plane of his mother he left the sea, returned home and went into the Post Office, then studied telegraphy and taught piano, After arriving there Morriss joined the Marconi Wireless Company as an operator at the Seagate Wireless Station. Later the company sent him to Greece and England on a business trip and while in England he had his first plane ride with Claude Greham White. After his return Morriss established a Marconi chain along the east coast and Cuba.
