In December, 1929, Morriss was one of the original promoters of the Early Birds, an organization of pilots who flew before the first World War, and served as the organization's first President. In the early 1930's he moved to Los Angeles, California, where he became Manager of the Clark Hotel. His hotel soon became the official West Coast headquarters for the Early Birds and on several occasions he sponsored E.B. reunions and gatherings there.
Morriss passed away at Los Angeles in 1944, at the age of 70, and was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Flying Pioneer "Bud" Morriss was a man of many interests and talents. Adventurer and explorer, his lifetime led him to many vocations. Promoter, organizer, and investor, he became enthusiastic over aviation along the way, learned to fly and did his bit to promote the budding aviation industry during its early period of development.
