Early Wright Pilot - Instructor

Marjorie Stinson was born at Fort Payne, Alabama, where she attended local schools, then Millsap College, Mississippi and George Washington Law School.

Her older sister, Katherine, learned to fly in 1912, then with their mother formed the Stinson Aviation Company in the spring of 1913 to conduct an aviation business. That season Katherine firmly established herself as a renowned exhibition pilot and Marge, intrigued and encouraged by her sister's success, became determined to learn to fly.

As a result she entered the Wright Flying school, at Dayton, Ohio, in mid-June, 1914 where she was taught to fly by Howard Rinehart. She flew her tests for pilot license on August 1st and was granted F.A.I. Certificate No. 303 on August 8, 1814 on a school Wright. On August 5th Marge joined Katherine, who was flying at Overland Park, Kansas City, Missouri, and there Marge made her first public exhibition flights. Following this event the sisters made their headquarters at Cicero Field, Chicago, where Marge continued her practice through the Fall of 1914.

During the winter of 1914-1915 Marge and Katherine established their headquarters at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas, where they carried passengers and continued practice flying. At that time their brothers, Ed and Jack, were
