company controlled by Timm Aircraft Corporation, known as Timm Industries, Inc. His first venture was a contract to make 12,000 Coca Cola dispensing machines for a Chicago company. He then developed a line of fabricated aluminum window sash and put them into production. This business grew rapidly until the Korean war when their material supply was cut 75 percent, so the plant was converted to produce aircraft components.

During his long and noteworthy aviation career Timm designed, built and tested thirteen distinctly different airplanes, truly a remarkable record. During his earlier life he used his exhibition earnings for experimental and developmental work. His engineering curiosity was continually seeking the comparative effects by testing various things experimentally, always with the knowledge that they must be flown at his own risk to get the answers. He developed unique methods of static-testing materials and component structures used in his planes. The value of these procedures is proven by the fact that they were later adopted by the government in the testing of both military and civilian aircraft.

Flying Pioneer and Early Bird Otto W. Timm devoted his entire active career to the progressive development of American aviation. He is richly deserving of great credit for his many notable accomplishments. Starting in his youth he possessed the ability and courage to build his own planes and then learn to fly them. Self-taught, he went on by hard work and determination to become a competent designer, expert pilot, and manufacturer. He held Transport License No. 5211, was a member of the Early Birds, and was formerly active in the Professional Pilots Association. He resided at Irvine, California.

Full credit is given Mr. Timm for his major contribution to the text and checking of this biography.
