       Early Pioneer Curtis Aviator - Exhibition Flyer


   Charles F. Walsh was born
October 27, 1877 at Mission Valley,
California, thewn a small village
near San Diego and now a part of
the city. Son of a grocer, the
family moved into San Diego when 
Charles was a small child, where
he grew up and received his school-
ing. In his late teens he started
a bicycle business with a pal of 
his but the venture was not success-
ful. As a result he went to Los
Angeles and worked his way through
a night school course of Staion-
ary Engeneering. Upon completing 
this series of studies he obtained
a position as Engineer of the California Hospital in Los Angeles, where he later made the acquaintance of a student nurse who, in September, 1903, became Mrs. Charles Walsh.
     In January, 1904 Walsh ans his bride moved to Winslow, Arizona where he tried railroading for a time. This did not prove to his liking so they returned to Los Angeles where he became an engineer with an oil refinery. When news accounts began to appear concerning the gold rush at Goldfield, Neveda Walsh got the urge to investigate, so they moved there to try their luck. This venture was not a success so they returned to Los Angeles where he again obtained employment as an engineer. Whike there a son was born to them. After a time Walsh decided to return to Gold-
filed so they went back and he built an adobe house for the family. When finished
