F.D.R. Says:

"People should do their work as near their homes as possible. We cannot afford to transport a single worker into an area where there is already a worker available to do the job. In some communities, employers...are reluctant to hire Negroes...We can no longer afford to indulge such prejudices or practices."

But Capital Transit

Flatly refuses to hire qualified Negroes to operate buses and streetcars, even though it is desperate for operators!

Recruits operators from far out of Washington and actually moves men and their families to this overcrowded war capital, while competent Negroes who already live here are barred!

Endangers the efficiency of Washington's transportation system. And transportation is essential to the war effort!

Defies the Government's Fair Employment Practices Code!

SPEAKERS!
ADAM CLAYTON POWELL, JR.
New York City Councilman

INSIDE STORES!
HENRY T. RHINE
President, Industrial Union Council

Sponsored by the Committee on Jobs For Negroes in Public Utilities
