NON-ATTENDANCE

Senator Wallace H. White, Jr., called and asked to be excused since he was called to attend an important meeting at the Capitol at 10:30 a.m. The Secretary announced that Senator Vandenberg, President pro tempore of the Senate, would not be able to attend because of prior imperative engagements.

MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING

The Secretary stated that the minutes of the last annual meeting held January 18, 1946, had been duly circulated among the members of the Board.

On motion, the Minutes were approved.

CHANGES IN THE BOARD OF REGENTS

The Secretary stated that during the year the following changes had occurred in the personnel of the Board of Regents:

On April 22, 1946, there came the death of the Chancellor of the Institution, Chief Justice Harlan Fiske Stone.

On May 2, 1946, by joint resolution of Congress, Dr. Bush was reappointed to succeed himself.

June 24, 1946. The Honorable Fred M. Vinson, appointed as Chief Justice of the United States, became thus a Regent of the Institution.

On January 29, 1945, Representative B. Carroll Reece was appointed a House Regent to succeed former Representative Foster Stearns. As Representative Reece did not stand for re-election, his term as a Regent expired with the last Congress.
