SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION 1238 Biologists come regularly to the island to make studies of the fauna and flora. Since the Island was first set aside for scientific research some 400 publications have been made on research carried on here in the fields of entomology, forestry, and medicine with special reference to the control of termites, fruit flies and mosquitoes. ANNUAL REPORT OF THE SMITHSONIAN ART COMMISSION The Secretary made the following report: The twenty-fourth annual meeting was held on December 6, 1946.
