December 6

Dear folks,

Have spent the week-end in work uninterrupted, for a change: read 3 plays and two books on Greek history & historians: Tuesday is the oral exam on Herodotus; [[strikethrough]] next [[/strikethrough]] week from Wednesday is the one on Sophocles; and a 3000 word paper is due for Comp Lit on Tuesday from this, which I will do [[strikethrough]] on [[/strikethrough]] comparing certain plays of Sophocles, Milton, and T.S. Eliot, lots of fun: somewhat encouraged by the B+ and lengthy comment on the other paper for that course. As for my other grades, they are so-so: in 3 Ec quizzes I have got C, A, C ; in Eng 130 hour exam, B-; in History hour exam, B.

Knapp.

I am wondering if I don't need glasses for certain occasions. Tho my head never aches, and no long-distance copying is necessitated, I always miss out on fun: like foreign movies with sub-title translations. Well, maybe. Glad you are as ever the woman behind the man in Barber's case.

What is out on Gravelly Point? I didn't remember.

We have just put the tree up in the house, and Agnes (the foremost cook-maid) was stepping strutly into the living room with "snow" just after supper, her mouth pursed for action. Barbara [[strikethrough]] Telfes took the tip-top that was chopped off and set it up in their room, (she & Kieth Doeman, across from Hannah & Kitty, at the end of the hall) Hannah gave tinfoil; decorated with chains & balls of it, they had made a Star of David for the top, when Kitty came in with an angel in a red skirt & replaced the star by putting it on the top: when it occurred to Barbara that Miss Angel was apt to be ticklish! (It surely looked so) Wish I had pine & holly in my room; would also like to be able to rid [[strikethrough]] a [[/strikethrough]] Maud's room of its scent by a brush of pine, maybe will hack one when I go out. Look forward much to a tree.

Love,
Doris
