January 2

1978 - Monday - 25° at 7AM. Snowing lightly - about 2" on ground. No Mass account Wes' cold. Sun 7:20-4:40  Wes' cold slowly getting better.

Started waxing woodwork in dining room - did the window wall. Wes plowed the driveway after lunch - I shoveled the terrace and walks - a light dry snow. I cut out & started challis skirt.

1979 - Tuesday - 26° at 6 AM - Raining - very dark at breakfast time - couldn't see mountain. Sun 7:26/4:39 Ducks came - lot of water on top of ice in ponds
Did wash - to Ridgefield - liquor - cleaner - more wool for secretary pillow - white turtleneck for Wes - 
Chest at "Silk Purse" had been sold - next time buy faster
Home for lunch and nap - Wes worked in shop - his steel delivered - I cut out cotton blouse - brought in potted bulbs from coldframe - cleared pond of lot of leaves - Wes picked up

1980 - Wednesday 23° at 7 AM. - Good sleeping - Cloudy became a beautiful, sunny, cold winter day.
Took tree apart - cut branches to place on perennial garden. Sanded plant table.
Wes hobbied successfully. I changed collar of cotton blouse to look better with quilted vest.
Put away some of Christmas decorations. Made doctor appointments for Jan 24th. Mallards morning & afternoon - whites only in afternoon - enjoy their flying home.

1981 - Friday - 21° at 6:30. Light snow - some on ground - Watched 15 Mallards come in for corn. Beautiful flying. Sun 7:20-4:40. Cleared for a beautiful day - increasing winds and colder.
To bank to apply proceeds of 6 months certificate to loan. Shopped Basics - To Electric Supply, Federal Road, for Thermador stove plates - referred us to Westchester Supply, Elm Street. They were closed. Hobbies - quiet evening.

1982 - Saturday - 26° at 6:30 Clear & Sunny cold - a real beautiful winter day. Sun 7:20- 4:40
Wes worked in shop - cleaned it, den and shop lavatory - split wood.
I cleaned kitchen floor - then put Lestoil on it - too thick - will have to wash it off tomorrow. Used Bernina to put new zipper in heavy tweed skirt - wrote letters - We ate luncheon in Solar

January 3

1978 - Tuesday - 14° at 6:30 AM - clear. Sun 7:20-4:40 Fair beautiful day but cold.
Waxed both ends of diningroom & polished furniture
To Bethel Market, Ace Hardware - Danbury Union Trust to put Dime passbook in safe deposit box - I talked to Miss Humphrey of Moseley Hallgarten re investment of this year's ICP payment. Hobbied in afternoon.

1979 - Wednesday - 23° at 6 AM - Sun 7:20/4:40. Bright, sunny, windy - very cold - 10° at bedtime Out only to split wood and feed birds and ducks.
Took down Christmas tree. Wes attempted taking lights from back dogwood but gave up - too cold.
Wes worked in shop in afternoon - I set up plants again [[by?]] French door - wrote letters - ordered slippers from Altman's - did a little sewing on cotton blouse.

1980 - Thursday - 25° at 6 AM - Moon in West - clouds across it - beautiful from breakfast table.
Hobbied - Wes had bad luck drilling holes in cylinder block casting. To bank - rolled over 6 Months Savings Certificate new interest 11.88. Wes had picture taken for new driver's license - shopped Deeps. Home for hot soup - nap. Filled feeders - put out corn. Mallards come in but don't stay. Lots of Cardinals.

1981 - Saturday - 2° at 6:30 - Cloudy - cold dreary day - indoors for me - Wes out several times to shovel snow (light) which started before noon - and to feed birds and ducks and get up wood.
Wes worked in shop - I cut out striped blouse  Made a macaroon Pie for dinner. These have been enjoyable, quiet days for us.

1982 - Sunday - 22° at 6 AM - Sun 7:21-4:40  Gloomy, cold day - just over 32° was high  To 8 o'clock Mass. Wes balanced book and worked on chart of Oliver Nursery wall garden. I washed kitchen floor trying to remove streaks.
Helen and Alex picked us up at 3:30 and we went to the Sontag's home for a drink - lovely family. Home at six.
