March 10

1978 - Friday - Treasure Cay - Beautiful - big wind during night sun out in morning - Trip to Green Turtle Cay cancelled account high wind So we played 9 holes golf  - no improvement - blame it on the wind! Post Office (no mail in) a little grocery shopping - tried for Miami paper - none in Needlepoint - read - Wes  "Great Lion of God" by Taylor Caldwell - I finished Kipling's "Kim".

1979 - Saturday - 38º at 6 AM. Cloudy - light rain most of day and through the night. To Mass. To Colonial Honda, Federal Road Danbury - will call when 4-door Model comes in - Wes liked the shop. To bank, Stop & Shop - Liquor Store, Caldor, gasoline (72.9 regular - Hannery's) Home for lunch - nap. Hobbies in afternoon. Pair Canada Geese in afternoon. Relocated "mangey squirrel" enroute Mass in morning.

1980 - Monday - 18º at 6:30. Fair - Frost - warmed up to over 50º in afternoon. Thunderstorm in evening and at night - heavy rain. Sent deposit for next May's A H S tour to Brandywine - this year's sold out.
To bank - Marcus - Stop & Shop - left grey coat at Annesi Tailor for shortening - Greenhouse to transplant 8 Taxus cuttings - home for lunch - nap - cleaned car - walked property to plan raspberry bed - moved bulb pots under shed - picked up willow branches - chased Kilduff Geese.

1981 - Tuesday - 25º at 5:45 - Mostly fair day. High 49º. To Mass. Prepared for Eileen's visit - here at 10:30 with Buttons. We went to Bogus Road - Alex came to take pictures. We walked about Wes cut wood - gave some to Eileen. Back for dinner and talk - she left at 3:30. Read funnies - nap. Eileen has an offer for her Cape Cod property.

1982 - Wednesday - 15º at 6:30. Sunny - snow melted before day was over - cold March wind. Did house chores early - left with Gizella and Alice at 9:30 for N.Y. Botanical Garden - had a lovely day in conservatory - Snuff Mill for a sandwich - Garden Shop - I didn't buy anything! Wes had worked in shop.


March 11

1978 - Saturday - Treasure Cay - Cloudy - Wind stopped. Became a beautiful sunny day. "Island Lady" at 9:15 for Green Turtle Cay - about half hour ride - first to New Plymouth - walked about - saw Albert Lowe Museum (ship models) had a beer - bought crawfish $5.25 a pound - to Green Turtle Club for lunch - a walk - boat back - home by 3 pm - nap - bought rum & tonic - paper finally learned Miners refused contract.

1979 - Sunday - 38º at 7 AM - Light rain - turned to snow before we left for 9:30 Mass. Wes relocated a squirrel before Mass. Noisy children during Mass and whining coffeepot caused big discussion following. Balanced books - lunch - nap - hobbies
To Ruth Sharp's for drink at 5 pm. Mrs Wheeler in hospital - Mark Sattler has back trouble - Ruth had teeth out and skin trouble - we're lucky - I only have intestinal bug.

1980 - Tuesday - 39º at 6 AM - cloudy - Water high in ponds - at top of overflow pond wall. Lots of Mallards 4 White Ducks - Wes chased the six Green geese. Sun 6:14 - 5:59. Very cold day - out only to feed birds and ducks and chase geese. Water down by evening. Indoor chores - garden club and making of Gizela's strudel by me - Wes ground the walnuts for it and did shop work. Redwings on terrace.

1981 - Wednesday - 24º at 6 AM - Mostly fair day cloudy after lunch - few snow flurries. St. Charles Kitchens - Mr. Gerard - here at 9 AM  - and Mike Mannion went over kitchen plans. Then to Valley Stone & Marble - picked out tile for bathrooms and marble for fireplace. Lunch & nap. I picked up flowers from Pinchbeck for Ruth Sharp - we called on her at 5 pm. Wes took plow off tractor - used it only once this winter.

1982 - Thursday - 30º at 6 AM - cloudy - had dusting of snow overnight. Cleared for a very short time in late afternoon - and milder - over 50.
To Mass. Crossword puzzle. House chores. Wes split wood - worked in shop - the  story of his life. I went to bank in Ridgefield - Grand Central and Brunetti's. To Keeler Tavern Garden House - met Lil Durkee - Val Casey - Bev Preston on joint meeting March 23rd there. Left Fuschia and bulbs in Solar overnight as it was 42º at bedtime
