June 20

1978 - Tuesday - 55° at 6 AM - Beautiful day - everything refreshed by yesterday's storm. Ladies have golf course Tuesday mornings now - we played 2-4pm.
Trimmed arborvitae and all taxus shrubs, etc. at house front in morning -  cut maple limbs over terrace. Caught 7th chipmunk. Cut grass after golf.

1979 - Wednesday - 62° at 6:30. Beautiful morning
Odd/Even gasoline sales go into effect. Wes called McGovern on mower - will send mechanic. Took some woolen clothes to cleaner - bought Smith Corona typewriter at Calder - groceries at Stop & Shop - didn't buy celery 99¢ Trimmed Arborvitae at walk and garage - taxus and 2 hemlock at mailbox - Wes finished cutting big lawn - Jacobsen went for 15 minute - Used Malathion on squash - Mr. Nurnberg brought fabric samples for sofa & chairs

1980 - Friday - 56° at 5:30. Cloudy - few sprinkles but no needed rain - cool-breezy-clear in evening - Prepared for Greenwich show - loaded car - left at 8 for Becky's picked her up and her begonia - beautiful area in Round Hill Road - arranged exhibits - home at 2 pm. Joe Keller here from 8:15 to 1 pm - edged weeping birch & pin oak. Picked strawberries, broccoli - lettuce & green onion for dinner.

1981 - Saturday - in Cooperstown with Eileen Waren with afternoon shower. Breakfast at 8 - dining room opened at 7:30 but we didn't know it - took limousine tour around town - then in our car went to Farmers and Fennimore Museums - Had hamburger for Lunch. Took 3:30 boat trip on Chief Uncas on Otsego Lake - shower at end of trip - to 5:30 Mass at St. Mary's - cocktail and dinner

1982 - Sunday - 58° at 6 AM - Sunny beautiful day - breezy. To 8 o'clock Mass. Wes continued working along road on south side - later worked on wall at cliff on east. I cut off growth from stumps at that area - cut grass - raked - picked up stones - looked neat when we quit although wall not yet finished
Enjoyed "Flickers" in evening

June 21

1978 - Wednesday - Fair - Summer arrives 2:10 pm. 58° at 6 AM - warm, humid day - rain at night 2/10 IN. 
Wes cleaned gutters - I made tablecloths from sheets for card tables. Wes picked up Joe Keller and we all worked hard from 9-4 pm. Trimming, cultivating etc. Alex brought his cousin Dr. Hume & Helene Hume to see garden - pink poppies beautiful. Doll Macklin stopped by. Caught 8th and 9th chipmunk

1979 - Thursday - 52° at 6 AM - Foggy - became a beautiful day - sunny - not too warm - good breeze. Summer arrived evening. Pat here to clean - going to visit her mother for two weeks. Magovern mechanic here to check Jacobsen - cut grass - points causing trouble. Wes got gas in car and cans (we are odd number) I went with Helene Merrick & the McKeon's (in their car) to Washington Garden Club Garden Tour - Sewell  Gardens - herb auction - home at 5:15 - Wes working on blueberry frame

1980 - Saturday - 60° at 6:30 with sun on Thermometer. Saw King Bird. Beautiful sunny day - too bad no rain 
Wes worked in shop for hour - I started Horticulture Annual Report - can't finish till know results of Greenwich show. 
Worked outdoors rest of day. Wes removed one white birch stump across big pond - finished grass trimming. I cultivated flower beds - found mole runs at garage and under wall. Transplanted two zucchini plants. Staked lots of plants in sun garden. Potted rooted Euonymous cuttings. 

1981 - Sunday - in Cooperstown with Eileen. After breakfast packed suitcase - back to Fenemore House for textiles of early N.Y. State show - beautiful. Left for home in thunderstorm via Route 28. Dining at Kass Inn on Route 30 below Margaretville - home at 4 pm - no rain here. Eileen left for home - phoned Buttons was fine - unpacked - took water to Bogus More electrical work was done - picked up mail from Gizela Thunderstorm at 6 pm.  .15 inch in gauge Monday AM.

1982 - Monday - 56 at 6:30 - Slept late! Light rain started at breakfast time - we rushed to put covers on table and grill. Summer arrives 1:23 pm. Rain .05. Cleared to beautiful afternoon. Indoor chores and shop in rainshower - then out to get leafmold to put around daylilies at back step - lifted couple trees in wood knoll. Haircut after lunch - Billie Newell picked me up there and we went to Pinchbeck to order flowers for Ross' anniversary Wes went to bank - brought plastic & gloves. Played golf 3-5 - lots of people - course drying out a bit. Lady Diana had a baby boy.
