June 24

1978 - Saturday - 46° at 6 AM - Fair - Ten Mallards at breakfast time - Ring Neck Dove around occasionally. Saw a pidgeon - (coffee on coupon at $1.99)

We cut down dead elms behind veg garden - cleaned out dead rose bushes there. I went to Ballard Garden to work for 1 1/2 hours - to cheese shop and Stop & Shop. Back home to water - work in garden. To 7 PM Mass - Marcus for cream & ice - Phoned MQ at Harkness. Set up breezeway for luncheon tomorrow

1979 - Sunday - 46° at 5:30 - Partly cloudy - looked like rain at times but only clouds - cool all day - wore sweaters. To 8 o'clock Mass. Helen and Alex had breakfast with us - Alex looked at fabrics for sofa - selected a different one - Gave them Astilbe and vegetables. Home at 12 and Wes balanced books and I worked in vegetable garden - cultivated asparagus. Cut back and side lawn. Met new neighbor - Joe Kilduff. Daughter Becky - son [[strikethrough]] Brian [[/strikethrough]] Ryan.

1980 - Tuesday - 56° at 6 AM - Hazy - hot - humid High 89°. To 7:30 Mass. Joe Keller worked 9-4. Put pine needles at weeping bush. Wes watered sun garden - & hand trimmed entrance and pacysandra bed. I took Helen - Ruth - Anne Tracy, Marilyn Dellman, Louise Willets to luncheon at Elms - on to Annual meeting at Mrs. Randolph's - won first for Tania lettuce - home at 4 pm - Wes had cut lawn over bridge - to Ruth's for drink.

1981 - Wednesday - 58° at 6 AM. Foggy - became beautiful day - need rain. Watered veg garden and seeded grass back of house. Picked peas, lettuce & strawberries. Wes sanded living room floor at French doors - put Fabulon on - looks good. I trimmed taxus on terrace and together we did taxus at signpost. Split white Siberian, and took parts to Bogus to plant in "bog." Saw Howard there - discussed electric lights. Planned entrance walk with Mike in morning.

1982 - Thursday - 52° at 6:15 - Sunny - beautiful day - warm sun - nice breeze. To Mass
Wes went with Tibor to Newtown to look at milling machine. I prepared lunch. Carolyn, Gus, Sarah and Bridget came at noon - Eileen just before. Pleasant visit - Eileen gave girls china cups - we gave them silver spoons. - All left at 2 pm. We cleaned up dishes and deck - took nap - Gizella gave us Siberian Iris - split it and planted it below south bank - filling in holes in stones there with soil in order to do so

June 25

1978 - Sunday - 58° at 6:30 - Beautiful day for our luncheon party. Eileen here at 11 AM - Jeff Riecher and Ada Bedeni came at noon. Guests beginning at 12:30 -  Jane & John Jessup - Billie Newell - Don Mashlin (back from Maine) Millicent Sattler (Mark on trip) Ruth Sharp - Alex and Helen & Mary Luke and Father Tighe - Left about 4 o'clock. Eileen walked about - took pine needles for her strawberries - left at 5:30- We put away furniture - washed dishes, etc.

1979 - Monday - 47° at 5:45 - Fair & cool day - beautiful - no Mass as Father on retreat. Played golf 8:30/10:30. Took fabrics to Ron Nurnberg - ordered fabric for sofa. Washed hair - Wes worked on blueberry frame - raised Jacobsen mower and cut big lawn. I went to Louise McKeon at 1:30 - Meeting on vegetable garden tour July 28th - then to Ballard Garden to cultivate  Met Billie Newell and John Pinchbeck there to decide on new trees - 3 to be planted - Cornus Kousa and 2 Kwanzan cherries

1980 - Wednesday - 60° at 6:15 - Hazy - Hot - Sunny and Breezy. Golf 8:15-10:30 - lots of players. Left lettuce with Gizella. To Cary Arboretum at 11 oclock with Anne & Frank Tracy - had picnic lunch - walked trails - Gifford House Visitor Center & Shop - Solar Source Center - Greenhouses - Tea House - Home via Millbrook & Route 22. Tracy's had drink with us. Supper and early to bed. Everything very dry.

1981 - Thursday - 70° at 5:45 - cloudy - some very light showers during day - heard thunder - light rain at night. To Mass.
Wes went to Sears to check prices for woodworking equipment - had razor fixed I transplanted cosmos from back to flagpole. Dug up variegated Hosta, Beebalm marsh marigold and took them to Bogus to plant in lower area. Talked to Howard & Mike - one extra closet fixture around! Wes sold 5 electric hand tools & jointer

1982 - Friday - 50° at 6 AM. Fair warm breezy day 
Golf 8-10:15. George Fox and Al Pfuper joined us - I went with Terry Keller to Schemin Nursery in her truck - bought weeping hemlock, viburnum tomentosum - Spirea Anthony Waterer -  ilex verticillata We planted them after a very late lunch.
Wes' milling machine was delivered
